2018 was a significant year for Tan Jianci, because of the program “I Am an Actor”, he was seen by more audiences as an actor. Before that, Tan Jianci’s acting career was not smooth. He had a low period, his life became a mess, he didn’t know what he should do, and he didn’t know what he could do. He was confused and decadent. If I couldn’t be an actor, I would just sing well. But maybe in a certain state, suddenly one day I wanted to come back and try again to see if I could be an actor. He commented that, given his own abilities, it would be easier to play roles that are closer to himself at this stage, but he still hopes to challenge some roles that he has not tried and are far from himself, “such as soldiers, or crime themes, etc. I have played very few themes now.”

Tan Jianci: I think ruffianism may be an external phenomenon. Boys still have to have their own personality, which is more internal than external.

Southern Metropolis Entertainment: Then what do you think your personality is like in love?

Tan Jianci: My personality in love may be… well, I have no feeling for now (slime). My personality in love may be more dominant.

Southern Metropolis Entertainment: You dubbed this drama yourself. In the previous scene of “Secrets of the Three Kingdoms” where your throat was cut, your voice was also very emotional. Do you have any skills in dubbing? Have you practiced the lines yourself?

Tan Jianci: Actually, the sound of the throat being cut as you said, I was even hoarseer than that on the spot, because I had to find a sense of the scene when dubbing, to put it bluntly, it was to act it out again. Because I have not received systematic training, I would practice my lines and intonation by reading articles or poems, including practicing my sense of language when I speak normally. You know I speak Cantonese, you may not be able to hear my accent, I remember that when I go back and watch my old videos, there is still some accent, it may be much better now.

Southern Metropolis Entertainment: When do you think you really like acting, or when you had an epiphany about acting?

Tan Jianci: I actually liked acting quite early, probably when I just finished filming my first movie in 2006, at that time I was very interested in acting, but this epiphany should be ten years later, in 2016, I will have a new understanding of acting. In fact, I had similar feelings in 2006, but I was very young at that time and didn’t realize it. Now I may slowly know that acting is actually a very sacred thing.

Tan Jianci: I will not give up my singing career. If I have some free time in the next few years, or if I have good works, I will still release songs, or release songs with my team.
